Busey is among 26 other top performing small-cap banks and thrifts in this year’s class—and is among only 2 companies headquartered in Illinois. To earn Sm-All Star status, companies must be publicly traded, must have a market capitalization of less than $2.5 billion and must clear numerous hurdles related to growth, profitability, credit quality and capital strength.
American Banker and Best Companies Group
The awards program identifies, recognizes and honors the best banks to work for in the United States. Busey is also featured in an article in the September 2016 issue of American Banker magazine. We are among only 60 banks selected across the country and among only 10 banks in our size category.
Independent Banker® magazine recognizes three community banks who have conducted creative, engaging and impactful social media campaigns. Busey was selected for our initiatives during Community Promise Month in April. Followers could nominate and vote for their favorite charity to win $250 through Community Counts and donate up to 30 meals for every share, comment or like on our pages during Promise a Plate. Busey is among only 3 of 6,500 organizations eligible to receive this prestigious honor.
Best Companies Group
The awards program identifies, recognizes and honors the best places of employment in the state—benefiting the state’s economy, workforce and businesses. Busey is among 18 companies recognized in the large employer category (500 or more U.S. employees).
City of Champaign
Busey is among the ‘Community Partners’ who received a 2016 STAR (Service Together Achieves Results) Award by the City of Champaign. The category honors excellence in community partnership—acknowledging organizations, schools and government agencies for above and beyond contributions to the community.
McLean County Chamber of Commerce
The McLean County Chamber of Commerce awarded Busey 2015 Excellence in Business. The award honors member businesses, agencies and individuals that have shown outstanding performance, quality customer service and business distinctiveness.
Central Illinois Business Magazine
Central Illinois Business Magazine awarded Busey 2015 Best of Towns in the ‘Best Financial Company’ category. From financial companies to restaurants and beyond, Busey was chosen by the community as their favorite in the Champaign area.
Punta Gorda Chamber of Commerce
The Punta Gorda Chamber of Commerce named Busey 2015 Large Business of the Year as part of its annual Donna Heidenreich Business of the Year Awards. This award goes to a local organization with lasting relationships and commitment in the community, and we’re honored to be recognized.
Independent Community Bankers of America®
Busey Bank was named among the Top 50 Community Bank Leaders in Social Media by the Independent Community Bankers of America®. The ICBA highlights social media trailblazers among the financial industry. Busey Bank was chosen out of nearly 6,000 community banks eligible to participate based on the following criteria: engagement with nearly 16,000 fans and followers; content distributed on our social media platforms—including fundraising initiatives, community events, giveaways and financial education; number of fans and followers; and frequency of posting new content.
Busey was named the 2015 Best of the Gulfshore by Gulfshore Life magazine for best in banking in Southwest Florida. From food and drink to insurance agencies and banks, readers were polled for their top choices. We are thrilled to be distinguished among the best of the best by one of Southwest Florida's premier lifestyle magazines and look forward to continuing to provide premier financial services to Southwest Florida.
Illinois Bankers Association
The Financial Literacy Award is presented annually by the Illinois Bankers Association to a financial institution in Illinois for their work and dedication in providing financial education to community members of all ages. Busey was recognized for a variety of initiatives, including MoneySmart Youth. The online program teaches children ages 5-10 the importance of money—how it's used, earned saved and taxed—through video lessons and interactive worksheets. In addition to the online program, associates volunteer their time at local schools and youth groups.
Herald & Review
Readers of Herald & Review vote annually on the best of Decatur and greater Central Illinois. In 2014, Busey was ranked in the top three for best bank among subscribers.
For the second consecutive year, First Busey Corporation has been selected from over 8,000 U.S. companies for Forbes’ list of America’s Most Trustworthy Companies. This year Forbes extracted the list further by separately identifying the 50 Most Trustworthy Financial Companies in America—Busey tied for the third highest score among rated organizations. We are honored that our dedication to conservative accounting practices and solid corporate governance has once again been recognized—a further tribute to our success over the past 146 years.

In this edition, Robert Ballsrud, Executive Vice President and Executive Managing Director of Busey Wealth Management, discusses our client-centric philosophy, the resources and strategies we share with our clients and the many ways we work to strengthen our communities.
National Weather Service
Busey received StormReady accreditation by the National Weather Service in 2014 for our banking centers in Illinois, Indiana and Florida. Busey is among only 20 organizations in Illinois, including the first in Champaign-Urbana, 12 in Indiana and 13 in Florida. StormReady is a nationwide program that helps businesses and communities protect citizens during severe weather and encourages organizations to take a proactive approach to improving local hazardous weather operations. To receive accreditation, Busey excelled in the following areas: communication, local warning dissemination, community preparedness, administration and ability to receive NOAA updates.
First Busey Corporation was named among Forbes’ 2013 list of America’s 100 Most Trustworthy Companies—the only list of its kind that focuses on the true trustworthiness of a business. Forbes partners with GMI Ratings, a pioneer in the application of non-traditional risk measures for financial analysis, in order to identify the most transparent and trustworthy publicly traded companies in the U.S. The organization finds that its 100 Most Trustworthy Companies have consistently demonstrated transparent and conservative accounting practices and solid corporate governance, management and board supervision.
Illinois Bankers Association
This award from the Illinois Bankers Association honors organizations that go above and beyond, demonstrating a high level of service to their communities. Our nomination to the IBA included four areas of focus: 1) volunteerism—including our annual Community Promise Week & year-round initiatives, 2) education, 3) sustainability, and 4) social media efforts—including our Promise a Plate initiative, which provided over 25,000 meals to families in need.
Illinois Sustainable Technology Center and Office of the Governor
Governor Pat Quinn and the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center (ISTC) at the University of Illinois awarded Busey Honorable Mention for the 2013 Governor’s Sustainability Award. The award honors organizations across Illinois that demonstrate a commitment to environmental excellence. Nominations are evaluated by energy conservation; significance of sustainability activities; technology changes—including improvements in equipment and processes; and benefits to employees, community and environment, to name a few.
For the past two years, BankNews has recognized Busey as a Green Leaf Award Honorable Mention. This honor was given to only two other organizations in the nation for advancements in sustainability. The Green Leaf Award recognizes financial institutions nationwide helping to improve their communities through cooperation and participation in programs and projects; and, at the same time, contributing to a better environment through policies, programs and technology.

Busey was recognized by Gulfshore Life magazine—one of southwest Florida’s leading publications. Busey was voted Best Mortgage Lender in Lee County.

Illinois Housing Development Authority
The IHDA has consistently recognized Busey as a #1 Mortgage Lender since 2008. IHDA provides low interest mortgage loans for first-time homebuyers in Illinois and assists with down payments and closing costs for qualified buyers.
U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development
Busey is honored to be recognized by the USDA Rural Development as one of Illinois’ Top Guaranteed Housing Lenders since 2010. In the past year, Busey guaranteed more than $21.5 million to help 197 moderate income homebuyers purchase their first home or upgrade to a new home. We’re extremely proud to be recognized by the USDA as the top rural housing lender in Illinois.
Busey is honored to receive a 5-Star “superior” rating by the nation’s leading bank rating and research firm BauerFinancial for a second consecutive year. 5-Star rated financial institutions are recognized for being financially sound and operating well above regulatory capital requirements. BauerFinancial has been reporting on and analyzing the performance of U.S. banks since 1983. Star ratings are assigned on a scale of zero-to-five stars (5-stars being the strongest) and are based on the current overall financial picture of the bank.
