“I went into banking right out of college, starting as a trainee before transitioning into a retail operations position. I immediately enjoyed the teamwork aspect of my job and found that being customer-focused and helping customers and their families meet their financial goals and objectives was very rewarding. I was incredibly fortunate to have a mentor who was a branch manager early in my career. He was able to help me stay focused yet be creative.
I was allowed the freedom to contribute in a wide assortment of ways to help our team succeed, which helped me learn all the different aspects of banking and transition into new positions easily. Now, after nearly 30 years in banking I still find helping customers rewarding. And even better, I get to pay it forward, passing on what I know and mentoring a new generation of bankers.”

“If I could give one piece of advice it would be that the grass is not always greener on the other side. I was once approached by a retailer with an offer to be a buyer. I loved working for the bank, but I also love fashion and the offer seemed too good to pass up, so I accepted the position. However, within five minutes of the first day on my new ‘dream’ job I knew I had made a mistake. By lunch, I was on the phone with my former supervisor asking for my old job back. He told me the position had been filled, but to keep in touch, which I did. Finally, after five long months I was back at the bank and happy once again. I was extremely grateful to get a second chance and learned the valuable lesson that more money doesn’t always translate to more happiness.”
“I always knew I wanted to work with people. I just didn’t know in what capacity. I pursued my undergrad degree in psychology and criminal justice in hopes of being able to help people who need it most. However, after several ride-alongs with law enforcement, I decided that wasn’t for me.
It was my first marketing and sales position shortly after college that helped me find my path. I went back to school and earned my master’s degree in business education from Millikin University, and when an opportunity to work at Busey presented itself, I jumped at it. I knew Busey was a well-established company that values its employees, and I haven’t been disappointed. I thoroughly enjoy my job with the merchant services team and my managers do a great job making sure it stays that way.
The best part is I do get to work with people, meeting with various business owners to help them implement needs-based solutions and streamlining their payment operations to help them reach their goals.”

"In May 2018, I was approached with an opportunity at Busey. While I felt I was ready for a new adventure, I had been working with a different bank since 2004 and was not sure what a change would bring. After many conversations with my husband reviewing the pros and cons of making the switch, I decided to accept the position with Busey in August 2018. I can honestly say it has been an absolute amazing adventure ever since.
Learning a new system and new policies has certainly been challenging, but help was offered every step of the way. After experiencing how much Busey values their employees’ opinions, and not only welcomes - but encourages - their feedback, I could not be more grateful or happy I decided to make the change."
