“Two years ago, my mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Her illness escalated quickly, and last year, we made the difficult decision to place her in an assisted living home. It’s a helpless feeling, watching her forget people and memories and not having the ability to speak in complete sentences or care for herself, especially since she looks healthy and is the strongest person I ever met. She taught me I could do anything if I try, but also, to not be afraid to ask for help. If something needed done, my mom would always find a way to do it. Seeing her change so fast makes me appreciate and make more time for loved ones. I have a passion for helping Alzheimer’s patients because it’s hard to understand what they are going through. Sometimes a smile or holding their hand is all they need because they want to know they are still loved and wanted.”
