Bill Koenig

Living the Busey promise in his community, Bill Koenig, Vice President | Commercial Portfolio Manager, is being recognized as Busey’s Volunteer of the Month.

Busey associate Bill Koenig smilingServing locally and passionately, Bill’s substantial involvement with organizations such as the Rotary Club of Peoria and IceHawks Hockey have been extremely rewarding to him as a community member. The relationship he has with the Rotary Club of Peoria has opened doors to spark impactful change. Bill has been a consistent volunteer with District 150’s reading program through the Club for over 20 years which supports at-risk 2nd grade students improve their reading skills. Bill has first handedly seen the decline in literacy skills among the students following the pandemic, which encourages him to serve now more than ever. While also serving on the Club’s Sterling Merit Committee and the Service and Hunger Grants Committees, Bill is continuously working to empower and support his community’s youth.

More recently, Bill has ventured into supporting older students through coaching the IceHawks High School Hockey Team. With the program undergoing difficulties, Bill decided to take on the challenge of rebuilding the team and organization. After assembling a new board and handling disciplinary and organization weaknesses, the team did a complete 180 – qualifying for the championship one year and winning the next! Knowing the impact he has on the development of the team both on and off the ice are the moments that make it so gratifying. Bill shares that “it is easy to find a reason to say no, but the challenge is to find a reason to say yes when you have the opportunity to make a difference”.

Congratulations, Bill!
