Busey Named to Forbes’ World’s Top Performing Banks List

Busey is honored to be named among the World’s Top Performing Banks 2026 by Forbes. The organization has previously been included on the magazine’s lists of World’s Best Banks (2024), America’s Best Banks (2022-2025) and Best-in-State Banks (2018-2019, 2025).

Busey ranked 41 of 115 banks in Tier 5 (lower mid-size banks with $10 to $20 billion in total assets) on the inaugural list of 500 banks from 89 countries. Eligible banks were segmented into six tiers based on their total assets so that the analysis compared financial institutions within their respective peer group sizes.

The ranking also utilized a variety of KPIs to measure:

  • Profitability | Calculated by combining return and efficacy metrics, such as return on average assets, cost-to-income ratio and net interest margin.
  • Growth & earnings quality | Calculated by factoring in earnings growth and stability along with customer deposit growth indicators over three-year periods.
  • Capital & funding resilience | Determined by combining capital strength and funding structure indicators, such as equity ratio and loan-to-deposit ratio.
  • Asset quality & efficiency | Calculated by assessing indicators of credit quality, risk management and balance sheet resilience.

In 2026, Busey was also included on American Banker’s list of Top-Performing Banks with $10B to $50B in assets. We are honored to be recognized in Illinois as a Best Place to Work, in Florida among the Best Companies to Work For and in Indiana as a Best Place to Work.
