Volunteer Spotlight Featuring Marcus Kwasa

January 2024 BUSEY'S VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH

Marcus Kwasa

Living the Busey promise in his community, Marcus Kwasa, Customer Care Advisor, is being recognized as Busey’s Volunteer of the Month.

Growing up, Marcus decided to embark on a journey through competitive marching band. He competed with Edwardsville High School and performed with multiple independent world class organizations. Marcus has also taught music in the St. Louis area including at Highland, Triad, Fort Zumwalt South and Granite City High Schools. Through his personal endeavors of music education, he was offered a position at Freedom Percussion, a nationally recognized competitive marching percussion organization that competes on a national level.

Freedom Percussion is based out of St. Louis to teach some of the best Marching Musicians in the Midwest. The organization consists local musicians from the St. Louis and Kansas City area, as well as many members from the Mizzou marching band. Marcus spends his time as a music educator here teaching college-aged students. Not only does he take time to educate music at a world class level, but there are times Marcus also steps up to be a support system for his students. Examples include educating students on next steps in their professional path, how to manage day to day challenges, and how to manage finances within their young adult world.

“Teaching music education at this high-level has been a huge passion of mine, and I am so grateful to have the opportunity.”

Congratulations Marcus!
